Pediatrics is the branch of medicine that deals with medical care of infants, children, and adolescents up to the age of 18 – 21. As early physician (Hippocrates, Soranus and Galen) and some philosopher (Aristotle and Celsus) understood the differences in growing and maturing organisms that necessitated different treatments. There are traces of paediatrics in sixth century BC in ancient India where children’s doctors were called kumara bhrtya. In second century AD Soranus of Ephesus dealt with neonatal pediatrics.
